QUADRINHOS
PARA BARBADOS

YouTube | Publications | Series

An independent project launched online in August 2014 that, each week, featured a new comic book creator focused on adult audiences. Created by the Rio-based production company FATO. (director Glauco Kuhnert and editor Daniele Pimentel) together with scriptwriter and editor Lobo, illustrator and animator Victor Marcello, and publicist Priscila MidoriQuadrinhos para Barbados aimed to spark deeper conversations about comics as an art form.

Through our YouTube channel, we released interviews and reviews of publications, talking to some of the most relevant Brazilian comic artists and international names such as Peter Kuper, Boulet, Julie Maroh, Timothy Zahn and Andrew C. Robinson

Partnerships & Social Impact

In 2015, the project partnered with FLUP – Literary Festival of the Peripheries, inviting comic artists from Rio to tell the stories of founding families of the Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira favelas. The artwork was printed in lambe-lambe posters and pasted on the walls of both favelas.

Later, we expanded our role within FLUP Pensa, the festival’s training program, teaching the language of comics to residents of Cidade de Deus and other Rio communities.

Expansion
In 2017, Quadrinhos para Barbados was selected for funding by ANCINE’s Sectoral Audiovisual Fund and developed its first format for television.
